365 Days of Chalk

This month I am celebrating 365 days of chalk drawings! 🎉

A year ago, I embarked on a journey to find joy in art making again. I was looking for a practice that felt uncomplicated and light — something that didn't require setting up a desk with paint and brushes, or time-blocking hours I simply couldn't find in my busy day. I just wanted to feel happy drawing again.

It was playing with my son that got me back in touch with my inner child. Choosing analog over digital, stepping away from the screen, and allowing myself to simply play.

Chalk turned out to be exactly what I needed. It's fun, unpretentious, and it taught me to embrace imperfections — to let go of the idea that every drawing has to be a masterpiece and every line has to be perfect. A small 5-minute daily commitment that has slowly built into the largest collection of drawings I have ever had. No fancy materials, no big sketchbooks — just small pieces of paper and some chalk in my bag.

And honestly? My favourite part has become scouting little spots to leave a chalk doodle out in the world — hanging out somewhere on a street corner, until the rain washes it away or the wind carries it off. There's something really freeing about that.

This practice has been helping me find my creative voice in the most unexpected way — and I can't wait to see where the next 365 days take me.

Cheers — to chalk drawing every day! 🖍️✨
